We love our cats, and we know they want to roam freely around the countryside, but between coyotes, hawks, raccoons and speeding cars on country roads we just weren’t willing to let them be outdoor cats. The idea of living with an indoor cat box was just something we couldn’t do any more, so we got the idea of adding one to the outside of our house.

The World’s Best Cat Box, Outside View Okay, this one is probably over-constructed, but it is solid, and it does work. The inside is lined with a plastic bin we had made at Tap Plastics. It’s filled with The World’s Best Cat Litter, which is made from corn, so it doesn’t get into our cats’ digestive systems, and is biodegradable.

Cat’s Can InsideThe most important component, and the hardest to find, turned out to be the fan. We found this 12-volt exhaust fan at EcoVantageEnergy.com, and it was the thing that made sure that no cat box odors drifted back into the house. It only uses 5.5 watts, so running it continuously isn’t a problem.

Bravo on keeping the kitties inside!!
I don’t think our Jax would fit through that hole, though. He has the biggest belly on the block.

oh, gee…i just think that this is the most wonderful thing that I have ever seen. it’s truly amazing what man is capable of. it’s right up there with the standing desk built right over the top of your treadmill. it might even be possible to combine these 2 expressions of american ingenuity and shoot those kitties into their can while watching katie couric, checking your email and walking off that extra 10lbs.

We haven’t got the World’s Best Cat Box, but we are going for the record of having the most cat boxes per cat… or is “per catita”?

ps: Henry is The World’s Best Cat, or at least tied for first.
